Jurgen Klopp revealed that Roberto Firmino will again face a late fitness assessment before a decision is made on whether he can play any part in Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Liverpool’s manager was speaking today at his pre-game press conference.

About Firmino, Klopp said:

“He was running yesterday but we now have to see how he’s reacted. He’s very positive but that’s Bobby’s nature. We have to see.

“It looks really good but I don’t know yet if he will be ready.”

Klopp highlighted the need for his Reds team to keep their heads and remain composed at all times in what is sure to be a frenetically-paced fixture.

“We’ve got to stay clear, stay fair, and stay aggressive, yes, but in the most legal way. That’s very important,” added Klopp.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss was asked for his take on the derby atmosphere he expects his team to be greeted with at Goodison Park.

“In the game, it’s very emotional and passionate, and I hope it’s like that again. That’s how football should be.

“At Goodison, they really support their team so let’s go there and use the atmosphere because it will be loud, it will be wild, and we have to deliver on the pitch.”

So, with the Firmino news in mind, it’s time for one final thing – our predicted lineup for the 233rd Merseyside derby.

I can see Firmino making the starting eleven. Klopp has already praised the Brazilian’s “healing powers” and I believe they will see him through again in this case.

In midfield, Klopp could well opt for the experienced heads of Jordan Henderson and James Milner. However, I think Fabinho’s performances have made him virtually undroppable so I think he’ll take his place at the base of The Reds’ midfield.

Milner was taken off after 70 minutes against Watford and I expect that was in order to preserve his energy for a starting place on Sunday. I think Naby Keita and Henderson will both have to settle for a place on the bench.

Liverpool’s predicted lineup (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk(c), Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Milner; Salah, Firmino, Mané
