Liverpool are discussing with Jurgen Klopp the opportunity to extend the German manager contract after he successfully secured the club’s sixth Champions League in their history.

There were up to 750,000 fans to welcome players and manager on Sunday after Liverpool defeated 2-0 Spurs in Madrid and landed the European Cup. Jurgen Klopp’s deal is currently ending in 2022 and it is not surprising that Liverpool’s owners are trying to lock in Klopp for more years.

The 51 years old oversaw a great Premier League campaign which Liverpool lost by only the smallest margin after totalling 97 points. The squad went on to win the Champions League in style after dismantling Barcelona in the semis with a straight 4-0 in the return leg.

Chairman Tom Werner said very kind words about Klopp. The American owner praised Jurgen stating that he is a fantastic coach and that, most importantly, he is a very humble and caring person. He also added that when the players threw Klopp in the air after the victory, they were showing what all Liverpool fans know. He is loved by everyone who appreciates football.

The Champions League has been the first major trophy since Jurgen Klopp was signed back in 2015. The manager said that he was impressed by the number of fans who took part in the victory parade. He said that he doesn’t know how many people exactly are living in Liverpool but it does look that there wasn’t a lot of space for fans of other teams in the city.

He also added that the scenes were incredible and that if you are a young kid, you don’t have many choices now other than supporting Liverpool. The German said that he was enjoying the moments thoroughly as he could see in the eyes of people how much that title meant to them and that emotions were really intense.

Liverpool also reached the final of the Champions League last season but were defeated by Real Madrid. The Reds have been in shining form in this final part of the season as they have won their last nine league games and have also recorded the third highest points total since the start of the Premier League.  According to biggestoffers the Reds are currently 13/4 to win the 2019/2020 Premier League season while Manchester City are at 13/18 to retain it.

With speculation during the summer surrounding Jurgen Klopp potential move to Juventus, it is not surprising that Liverpool’s owners are seeking further commitment from such an iconic manager.

Liverpool will make the trip to Qatar in December to take part in the FIFA’s Club World Cup. The Gulf state has been named as the new host of the competition which will feature the champions of 6 continents. It was previously being said that the Club World Cup will not take place this year after FIFA have approved significant changes to the tournament format.

It will be replaced with a 24 team tournament that will take place every four years. It will replace the Confederations Cup. Liverpool’s last appearance in the Club World Cup was in Japan when they managed to win the Champions League in 2005. On that occasion, they were defeated 1-0 in the final by South American champions Sao Paulo. The last edition of this tournament was won by Real Madrid who defeated Al Ain 4-1 in the last December.
