French publication L’Equipe is claiming that both Liverpool and FC Bayern have made an approach to sign Barcelona’s young winger Ousmane Dembele.
L’Equipe’s report states that Dembele would prefer to stay at Camp Nou, however. The 22-year-old French international has already impressed in the Bundesliga after spending one season with Jurgen Klopp’s old club, Borussia Dortmund, where he moved for €15 million from Rennes in 2016.
Barcelona snapped up the youngster just 12 months later and brought him to LaLiga.
It hasn’t all gone to plan so far for Dembele at Barca, though. In the two years since his arrival, he has lived very much in the shadow of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. Even an underperforming Philippe Coutinho seems to be preferred as a starting option by Ernesto Valverde.
With Barcelona reported being close to bringing Dembele’s fellow Frenchman Antoine Griezmann to the club, it would mean Dembele would fall even further down the pecking order. Of course, there are also rumours of a return to Camp Nou from PSG for Neymar.
Klopp is apparently a big fan of Dembele’s style and he would be an ideal extra option to have, providing immense speed from the wide positions of the Liverpool frontline.
It seems a move away from Barcelona is possibly the best option for Dembele if he wants to have any chance of realising his full potential with more game-time.
Whether he decides to sacrifice his Camp Nou career this summer is unlikely but you never know in football
