Liverpool defender Joel Matip feels his team will be ready to push for the three points at Burnley after having a full week of preparation following the win over Arsenal.

Matip scored a late first-half header to give Liverpool a vital lead going into the break against Arsenal. Two Mohamed Salah goals sealed the 3-1 win for The Reds in the second half.

Now, Liverpool enjoys another full week’s preparation ahead of Saturday evening’s trip to Turf Moor where Jurgen Klopp’s side will take on Sean Dyche’s Burnley team.

In an interview with Liverpoolfc.com, Matip highlighted the significance of having a week to prepare for the next game.

“To have a whole week for preparation is quite nice so we can use it.”

Reflecting on last weekend’s huge victory over The Gunners, Matip said:

“We tried it over 90 minutes to come through. We had to be patient and the result was good, we won at home against Arsenal, that’s always good.

“They were standing with two deep rows and with their speed in the front it was really difficult to come through because they were standing by their own box. But in the end, it worked.

“We tried to push but it was not easy to come through. We did it not too bad but against a high-quality team like this, it’s hard for every team.

“[Our confidence is] not bad, but everybody knows it’s so early in the season so we are just looking forward to the next game and then we will see.”

Matip’s headed effort brought his tally to two goals this season already and he is hungry for more.

“I want to score more goals and it’s nice that I could score, but it’s early in the season and there’s still a lot to increase. Maybe I’ll get the opportunity to score a few more.”

After his impressive performance against Arsenal, Matip is likely to keep his starting place for the Burnley game this Saturday.
