Liverpool are reportedly looking to sign Red Bull Salzburg playmaker Takumi Minamino and could try to get the deal done as early as next month.
As reported by Paul Joyce in The Times, Jurgen Klopp, his backroom staff and many of The Reds’ first-team players have been impressed with Minamino’s performances in both games against Liverpool in this season’s Champions League.
The 24-year-old Japanese international can play in attacking midfield or anywhere along the frontline. He scored two goals, including one tidy volleyed-finish at Anfield in their 4-3 loss in October, and laid on three assists in the Champions League group. Minamino has five goals and five assists in 14 Austrian Bundesliga appearances (11 starts) this season.
Joyce’s article quotes that Minamino’s “quality, poise in possession and ability to pick a pass from an attacking midfield role was clear”.
The Athletic’s James Pearce also got in on the transfer news, backing up Joyce’s claim that Liverpool will look to get the deal done during the January transfer window.
Understand it’s highly likely that Minamino joins Liverpool in January. Expect it to happen. Exciting deal. #LFC
