Wolves 1-2 Liverpool – Player Ratings as Bobby saves yet another away day

And, breathe. Liverpool won 2-1 again. Frankly, it was better when the Reds were keeping clean sheets. But, in the end, the mentality monsters prevailed. Roberto Firmino scored a late winner with a lovely finish past Rui Patricio to give the Reds the win, after Raul Jimenez cancelled out Jordan Henderson’s opener.

Here’s how each player fared.

Alisson Becker – 9/10

A couple of massive saves from Traore and Jimenez to keep it at 1-1, right after Wolves had equalised. Outstanding.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10

Another assist, another superb set-piece, and some more very good defensive work. He made a couple of crucial interventions to prevent Wolves going down his flank.

Joe Gomez – 7/10

Was good in a battle with Jimenez, and made a couple of big covering tackles on Traore, to prevent Wolves counter-attacks.

Virgil van Dijk – 7/10

Didn’t put a foot wrong, and just his stature was enough for the Wolves players to hesitate on going forward. There was an instance in the second half when Traore refused to dribble, and instead took a shot from way out.

Andrew Robertson – 4/10

A poor outing for him. Traore terrorised him, and he looked slow in general play as well. Didn’t play the offside trap too well either.

Jordan Henderson – 9/10

Goal. Assist. Drove the team on brilliantly. Captain Fantastic. Traore might have the big shoulders he does, but the most telling touch from a shoulder came off the captain’s, to open the scoring! Also, did well to take the ball off Salah and set up Firmino’s winner.

Gini Wijnaldum – 6/10

Did a lot of running, but was a culprit in Liverpool not being able to control the second half, with some really shoddy passing.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 5/10

Started well, and his drive from midfield was responsible in winning the corner for the first goal. He went a little anonymous after that though.

Mo Salah – 6/10

Great for the second goal, before Henderson’s assist, but did my head in all game, with his stubborn refusal to pass.

Roberto Firmino – 8/10

Away day king! He’s a spectacularly weird creation of God, this Bobby. The bottle to produce that kind of finish just a couple of minutes after he’d missed a one-on-one, and giving Patricio no chance with a top bins finish was amazing.

Sadio Mane – 5/10

Didn’t look right from the start, and was taken off with a hamstring injury. The Reds missed him, especially Robertson, with the lack of Mane’s tracking back, and that could have helped against Traore.

SUBSTITUTES

Takumi Minamino – 5/10

Great running, but no real quality on the ball. Still is bedding into the side, though, and Shrewsbury in the FA Cup will be another big test.

Fabinho – 5/10

Looked a little rusty, and his passing was a little shoddy as well. Traore bounced off him a couple of times as well.

Divock Origi – N/A

Came on after Liverpool scored the second, and didn’t have much time to impact proceedings.
