Klopp sings praises of Reds’ Egyptian King

Jürgen Klopp couldn’t hide his delight with the performance of Mohamed Salah in Liverpool’s 2-1 Premier League win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Salah equalised for Liverpool after they had gone behind to an early Callum Wilson strike. Sadio Mané played a poor pass to Salah but the Egyptian forward managed to salvage the situation and finished low at the near post, past Aaron Ramsdale.

Mané himself got on the scoresheet before half time to give The Reds the win with a great finish after being put through on goal by Virgil van Dijk.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the game, Klopp insisted Salah offered far more than just the equalising goal on the day.

Klopp was asked if Salah’s goal ensured his place among the top forwards to play for Liverpool down through the years.

“I don’t think he needed that goal to do that, but it helps obviously that people [will] remember you.

“Incredibly important goal, a super performance – a really, really good game of Mo.

“He is an outstanding striker, a world-class striker. It’s really nice, I’m really happy for him that he reached that mark and I think Sadio has the chance to do similar stuff. That would be really cool.

“We need the boys because, with all the good stuff you can do on the pitch, in the end, you need somebody to finish it off and very often, thank God, it was Mo.”

Salah’s goal against Bournemouth took his tally to 20 for the season, meaning Liverpool’s number 11 has now scored at least 20 goals in each of his three seasons at the club.

Hopefully, Salah and Mané will have their shooting boots on when Atlético Madrid arrive on Merseyside on Wednesday night. Klopp’s Reds have a one-goal deficit to overturn at Anfield if they are to keep their hopes of a successful Champions League trophy defence alive.
