James Pearce from The Athletic recently joined Nina Kauser on the Anfield Index Pro Media Matters podcast to discuss Liverpool’s approach, as a club, during this lockdown.

Jürgen Klopp’s Reds were 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League table when the action was brought to a stop due to the current Coronavirus pandemic.

With Liverpool quickly approaching their 19th league title and their first in 30 years, the club is certainly one of those with the most to lose if the 2019/20 Premier League campaign is voided. However, right from the start, the club took a wholly professional approach to the situation. Klopp’s statement on the matter left no doubt about that.

Speaking on Media Matters, Pearce discussed the precautions the club had been taking to restrict the spread of Coronavirus even before any significant guidance was received from the UK government. Deep cleans were commissioned at Anfield and Melwood regularly, player access was severely restricted around the times of the Bournemouth and Atlético Madrid fixtures, and Melwood was then completely closed down on Friday, March 13th.

Players have all been given individual fitness regimes to stick to during this down-time. Pearce described it as just a case of “ticking over” as everyone waits for the season to restart at some stage in what we hope will be the not-too-distant future.
