Spanish publication, Sport.es, reported this week that Jürgen Klopp is eyeing a move for Barcelona’s French forward Ousmane Dembélé.
The report claims that Liverpool are interested in signing Dembélé for around €80 million.
France international Dembélé is still only 22, yet, he has been performing to global audiences since his late teens. The youngster made his breakthrough with French Ligue 1 side Rennes in 2015/16, scoring 12 goals and providing 7 assists in his 26 league appearances.
A move to Klopp’s old club Dortmund followed in the summer of 2016 for Dembélé. Another 6 goals and 12 assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances really propelled him onto the world stage.
Barcelona signed Dembélé in 2017 for a whopping €125 million. However, injuries have somewhat stalled the young winger’s career since his move to the Catalans. He was part of the France squad that won the World Cup in Russia in 2018 but his club form has failed to take off in Spain.
According to Sport.es, Klopp is confident he could rekindle Dembélé’s early-career form if he had him on Merseyside.
It’s believed that Barcelona could be keen to cash in on Dembélé as they step up their pursuit of Internazionale’s Argentine striker Lautaro Martínez.
