Liverpool Interest in Yan Diomande Grows Amid Search for New Forward
Liverpool’s summer recruitment plans continue to dominate discussion around the club, and one name increasingly linked with a move to Anfield is Yan Diomande. During the latest Media Matters podcast on Anfield Index, Dave Davis and David Lynch discussed Liverpool’s growing interest in the RB Leipzig forward and whether he has emerged as the club’s leading attacking target.
As Liverpool prepare for a major rebuild after a disappointing season under Arne Slot, wide attacking reinforcements are expected to become a priority. Davis noted that Liverpool have already been linked with “about 87,000 wingers now”, but suggested Diomande appears to stand out from the rest.
Lynch’s response strongly hinted that the Leipzig attacker is highly regarded inside Liverpool’s recruitment plans.
“I think if Liverpool could get him this summer they would absolutely love to,” Lynch said.
Yan Diomande Emerging as Liverpool Priority
While Liverpool continue to be linked with several forwards across Europe, Lynch repeatedly returned to Diomande as the name that makes the most sense.
“I’d be surprised if Diomande is not the first choice to be honest,” he admitted during the discussion.
That comment immediately elevated the significance of Liverpool’s interest. Throughout the conversation, Lynch compared Diomande with other reported targets, including Bradley Barcola, but consistently pointed towards the RB Leipzig forward as the more suitable fit.
One major reason is versatility. Lynch explained that while Barcola naturally prefers operating from the left side, Liverpool’s squad balance may require somebody more flexible.
“Diomande very comfortable on both sides,” he said, adding that this “makes me think that with Diomande he would be higher up the list.”
Liverpool Recruitment Strategy Taking Shape
The discussion offered revealing insight into how Liverpool are approaching the market this summer. Lynch explained that Liverpool’s recruitment team are conducting extensive background work across multiple targets, but some names clearly fit the profile more naturally than others.
“I almost, he just feels to me like he will be really high up the list and be first choice,” Lynch said of Diomande.
The admiration appeared to go beyond tactical suitability. Lynch also highlighted the player’s age profile and production levels.
“His numbers are even better as well,” he added. “Age and all those kind of things about him, he just ticks so many boxes.”
That assessment aligns with Liverpool’s wider recruitment model, which has consistently prioritised younger players with strong development potential and positional flexibility.

Arne Slot Future Could Influence Liverpool Transfers
The conversation around Diomande also arrived against the backdrop of uncertainty surrounding Arne Slot’s future. Liverpool’s difficult season has increased pressure on the head coach, with Lynch openly questioning whether the current structure can be fixed simply through new signings.
Even so, the podcast made clear that Liverpool intend to strengthen significantly in attacking areas this summer.
“There’s a case to be made that you can pretty much with most of these winger links and midfielder links think there’s probably a little bit in it,” Lynch explained.
Still, Diomande appeared to stand above many of the alternatives discussed.
“Liverpool would love to get him if they can,” Lynch said.
