Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been singing the praises of his teammate Naby Keïta after the Guinea international finished the season in impressive fashion.
Keïta started five of Liverpool’s 9 Premier League games after the club returned to action in June, helping them secure the title with some driving performances from midfield.
Liverpool’s number 8 will be hoping for an extended run in the first-team next season if he can stay injury-free.
His performances have not gone unnoticed and Virgil van Dijk was keen to talk Keïta up when speaking to Liverpoolfc.com this week.
“I’m just very happy for Naby.
“Naby is a fantastic guy, he works so hard and he is an outstanding football player. We see it week in and week out. He has unfortunately been unlucky with some injuries, but, hopefully, he can stay fully fit for the next season.
“I think he is world-class if I’m absolutely honest. I see all the moments when he has the ball, the smart moves, the smart intelligence. It’s just incredible to see and I’m very happy for him.”
Van Dijk has been probably the best defender in world football for the last two years, at least. Impressing the Dutch international is, therefore, no easy feat.
Keïta reminded us all of his direct, attacking style from midfield with his performances in recent weeks. Against Chelsea, he scored a fantastic goal to get the ball rolling in Liverpool’s 5-3 win last week.
There’s certainly much more to come from the former RB Leipzig star. Here’s hoping he realises his true potential in the 2020/21 campaign for The Reds.
