Gini Wijnaldum claims he has not been surprised by Rhian Brewster’s red-hot goalscoring form in Liverpool’s two pre-season friendlies.
Brewster came on as a substitute in The Reds’ two games – the 3-0 win over VfB Stuttgart and the 2-2 draw with RB Salzburg. However, in roughly 80 minutes of action in those matches, Brewster has scored three goals. His two strikes to bring Liverpool back to level at 2-2 with RB Salzburg showed the youngster’s fantastic eye for goal along with his ice-cool composure with the ball at his feet.
Jürgen Klopp has praised Brewster’s finishing ability and now Gini Wijnaldum, speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, has jumped on board, insisting Brewster shows his talents in training on a daily basis.
“I’m not ‘impressed’, because I know already which kind of quality he has.
“We trained together for a few years and he showed also in training that his finishing is unbelievable, so I’m not really impressed!”
Wijnaldum went on to discuss the importance of players like Brewster coming through to add further squad depth ahead of the upcoming campaign.
“That’s how it should be. Now we have the fixtures we all know it’s going to be a really difficult season with a lot of games, so a lot of players will play a lot of games.
“So if you have a lot of players who can bring quality to the pitch, it makes it even better for the team. We are really happy that the guys who came in, the young players, made the difference today.”
Liverpool are currently preparing for their Community Shield clash with Arsenal at Wembley on Saturday evening. Rhian Brewster will be hoping to make an appearance off the bench at the very least for The Reds.
