With Liverpool’s domestic season back underway since last weekend, let’s take a quick look at all the news regarding our club so far this week.
Goalkeeper to sign
As reported by us yesterday, Liverpool expect to complete the signing of young Brazilian goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga this week. The Fluminense stopper is due on Merseyside to complete his medical in the coming days. He will then join up with Barry Lewtas’ Liverpool U23s squad. Pitaluga comes highly recommended by Liverpool’s Brazil international goalkeeper Alisson.
Neco Williams nominated for European award
Liverpool’s 19-year-old right-back has been nominated as part of a 40-man list for the 2020 Golden Boy award. This accolade is for the best players in Europe under the age of 21. The nominee list will be cut to 20 in October. 40 journalists across Europe will vote for who will win the 2020 Golden Boy award.
Wales international Williams will be delighted to have been nominated after a breakthrough season in his young career. He made 11 first-team appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s Red, earning a Premier League winner’s medal. Williams also scored the winner for Wales on his home debut for his country against Bulgaria earlier this month.
Reds to face Lincoln City in EFL Cup next week
Liverpool will play League One side Lincoln City next week in the EFL Cup third round. The Reds will travel to Sincil Bank Stadium (LNER Stadium) for the tie.
The third-round games are scheduled to take place next Tuesday and Wednesday nights. It’s highly likely that Lincoln vs Liverpool will be next Wednesday night due to Liverpool playing Chelsea this coming Sunday evening.
Lincoln turned in a great performance in the second round of the competition last night, winning 5-0 away to Bradford City.
