Player Ratings as Liverpool Dispatch Chelsea
Liverpool move onto 6 points from the first 2 games of the 2020/21 Premier League season with a 2-0 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. A red card late in the first half made it a simple victory for the Reds but, in truth, we’d have gone on to win comfortably either way.
GOALKEEPER:
Alisson – 8
Saved a 74th minute Jorginho penalty and made a couple of smart stops, as well.
DEFENCE:
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7
Had very little to do defensively but was always a threat going forward.
Fabinho – 9
Was playing out of position but looked as though he’d been playing centre back his entire career. A sensational defensive performance from the Brazilian.
Virgil Van Dijk – 7
Solid outing from the big Dutchman.
Andy Robertson – 6
A tad wasteful in attack but decent nonetheless.
MIDFIELD:
Jordan Henderson (Off at 45′) – 6
Played a great pass late on in the first half which led to the Christensen red card. Came off at half time with a knock.
Gini Wijnaldum – 6
Quite anonymous in the first 45 but was more involved in the second with a change of role.
Naby Keïta (Off at 64′) – 6
Quiet game for Naby but still a good performance.
ATTACK:
Mo Salah – 6
Always a threat but wasn’t at the electric level he was last week
Bobby Firmino – 6 (Off at 86′)
Another quite disappointing performance from Bobby. Was heavily involved in the opener, though, after a nice 1-2 with Salah.
Sadio Mané – 9
Vintage Sadio Mané. Aggressive, clinical, world-class. 2 goals for the Senegalese as well as getting Christensen sent-off. A sensational overall performance from our number 10.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Thiago (On at 45′) – 6
Showed his class on the ball throughout the entire 45 mins he was on the pitch. Was adjudged to have fouled Werner to give away a penalty but it was a very poor decision from the officials.
Milner (On at 64′) – 6
Classic Milner game.
Minamino (On at 86′) – 6
Deserves a start in the league soon.
