Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson appears to have missed training with The Reds on Tuesday according to reports.
As per Sky Sports News this morning, Henderson sat out first-team training while new boys Thiago and Diogo Jota both took part ahead of Thursday night’s trip to League One side Lincoln City.
Henderson put in a great first half in the win over Chelsea on Sunday but came off at half-time to be replaced by debutant Thiago Alcântara. Yes, it’s hard to see that name without singing it now, too.
Speaking in his post-match press conference following the 2-0 victory, Jürgen Klopp said:
“Jordan said he had a knock and I told him not to carry on because we didn’t want to take a risk with him.”
It’s believed Henderson suffered a thigh injury and it’s still unclear just how long the number 14 will be missing for.
Liverpool play Lincoln City on Thursday night in the third round of the Carabao Cup. It’s likely Henderson would not have featured in that game anyway with Klopp expected to turn to fringe players and youth talent instead.
The Reds’ next Premier League fixture is on Monday night when Arsenal visit Anfield. We’ll just have to wait and see if Henderson will be back in time for that clash with Mikel Arteta’s side.
Thankfully, Klopp has a great selection of midfielders to choose from now if Henderson is missing for another week or two. After Thiago’s signing last week, the Spain international is available along with Fabinho, Gini Wijnaldum, Naby Keïta, James Milner and Curtis Jones. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is currently injured as well.
