Liverpool play Brighton tonight in the Premier League. With an eventful transfer deadline day now behind them, what will Jürgen Klopp’s starting lineup be?
Liverpool won 3-1 at West Ham on Sunday to make it two wins in a row for the Premier League champions.
The Reds then brought in two centre-halves on transfer deadline day – Ozan Kabak from Schalke and Preston’s Ben Davies. However, it’s unlikely that Klopp would have put either one of those players into the starting eleven tonight, even if they had been registered in time for this game.
Liverpool are still missing Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joël Matip and Diogo Jota.
Fabinho, Naby Keïta, James Milner and Sadio Mané will all face late fitness tests. However, in Mané and Fabinho’s cases, in particular, it’s very unlikely Klopp will risk either player against Brighton. They will more than likely be kept for Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City.
Alisson Becker will continue in goals for Liverpool against Brighton. In front of him, it is likely to be the same back four that played the West Ham game on Sunday – Trent Alexander-Arnold, Nat Phillips, Jordan Henderson, and Andy Robertson.
The midfield trio should see Gini Wijnaldum continue in the ‘6’ role with Thiago and, possibly, Curtis Jones alongside him. Jones didn’t start at West Ham but had a huge influence on the game after coming on for Milner in the second half.
The front three is likely to be Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri. With Mane probably being saved for the City game, Shaqiri has another chance to impress – as he did against West Ham last weekend.
