Liverpool are rumoured to be tracking the progress of Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Gonçalves with the view to a possible move in the future.
According to Portuguese publication, Record, The Reds are interested in bringing the 22-year-old playmaker to Anfield as Liverpool plan a potentially busy summer in the transfer market.
Gonçalves has scored 14 goals and provided two assists in his 16 Primeira Liga starts for the Portuguese club this season. Sporting are 8 points clear of nearest rivals FC Porto as they look to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish.
Gonçalves goals from midfield have propelled Sporting to the top of the league at the midway point of the season and it’s believed that Liverpool’s scouting department sees him as an ideal acquisition and addition to their squad.
It’s unclear how much Gonçalves would cost Liverpool but the attacking midfielder does have a €60m release clause included in his contract. Sporting would also need to factor in a 50% sell-on fee that has to be passed onto Gonçalves’ former club Famalicão.
Gonçalves spent time with LaLiga side Valencia as a teenager where he captained the youth side. From Valencia, he joined Wolves’ Portuguese revolution in 2017. However, he was sold to Famalicão in 2019 without making a Premier League appearance. A year later, Sporting Lisbon recruited Gonçalves and he has gone from strength-to-strength ever since.
