Liverpool and Everton meet at Anfield this Saturday in the Premier League. We’ve taken a look at the starting eleven Jürgen Klopp may go with.
Klopp is without many first-team starters as he has been for most of this season. Currently missing through injury are Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joël Matip, Naby Keïta, Diogo Jota, Fabinho, and James Milner.
Alisson Becker looked a lot more self-assured during Liverpool’s 2-0 win against RB Leipzig on Tuesday night. The Brazil international goalkeeper is hopefully on his way back to his best now for The Reds. Alisson will start between the sticks against Everton.
Our full-backs will need a rest in some games for sure. However, a Merseyside derby as you battle for a top-four finish is not the most suitable time to be rotating players. As such, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson will be in their usual roles at right and left-back respectively.
Ozan Kabak played well against RB Leipzig and the 20-year-old centre-back will most likely partner Jordan Henderson at the heart of Liverpool’s back four again on Saturday.
In midfield, Naby Keïta is pushing for a return from injury to first-team action. He is back in full training this week. Keïta has not featured since playing in Liverpool’s 7-0 win at Crystal Palace in December. Strangely enough, I think Keïta could play the first 45 to 60 minutes against Everton. Gini Wijnaldum will continue in midfield with Thiago Alcântara alongside him. If Keïta does start with Wijnaldum and Thiago, then it’s likely he would be replaced by Curtis Jones at some stage in the second half.
The front line will be the same again with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mané tasked with putting the Everton defence to the sword.
Predicted Liverpool lineup (4-3-3) vs Everton: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Kabak, Henderson, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Thiago, Keïta; Salah, Firmino, Mané
