Liverpool are reported to be interested in Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni as The Reds prepare to build on their current squad.
Jürgen Klopp and co have had to cope for most of the season without their three top centre-backs – Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joël Matip. Van Dijk and Gomez both suffered long-term injuries while Matip’s season was stop-start until he eventually succumbed to a season-ending injury in late January.
Liverpool recruited Ozan Kabak on a six-month loan on transfer deadline day as well as signing Preston North End’s Ben Davies. Klopp has an option to make the Kabak deal permanent at the end of the season. However, it would come as no surprise to find out Liverpool are keeping their tabs on any talented young central defenders anywhere in Europe.
The Metro is claiming that ’21-year-old Inter centre-half Bastoni is firmly on Liverpool’s radar and high up on Klopp’s shortlist of potential options after an eye-catching campaign in Serie A.’
Bastoni could be a league title winner come the end of this season as, at the time of writing, Antonio Conte’s men are currently 8 points clear of city rivals AC Milan with a game in hand.
As of yet, it is unclear if there is any substance to this transfer rumour but it is very likely that Liverpool will go for another young centre-half in the summer transfer window, especially if the injury-prone Matip is sold.
