Some Liverpool stars have been in action in the UEFA European Championship over the weekend. Let’s take a quick look to see how they got on.
Williams and Wilson Progress
Wales internationals Neco Williams and Harry Wilson were both involved in their countries 1-0 defeat to Italy on Sunday evening. However, Wales did enough to finish second in the group on goal difference ahead of Switzerland and, thus, guaranteed qualification to the knockout stages.
Williams started at left-wing-back and played 86 minutes before he was replaced.
Wilson came on with 15 minutes to play, replacing Manchester United’s Daniel James.
It looks like Wales will now play second in Group B which is between Belgium, Russia, Finland, and Denmark.
Shaqiri on Fire for Swiss
Xherdan Shaqiri turned in a vintage performance for his national team, helping Switzerland to a 3-1 victory over Turkey with two well-taken goals.
The win was not enough to put the Swiss ahead of Wales in the group but it did leave them with four points, all but guaranteeing their progression as one of the four best third-placed teams.
Jota Continues to Impress for Portugal
Portugal and Liverpool star Diogo Jota scored his first goal of the tournament as his team fell to a 4-2 defeat against Germany. Jota also assisted the opening goal for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The defeat leaves Portugal third in the group on three points, behind Germany and France. Jota and co may need at least a draw when they play France in their final group game on Wednesday night.
