Liverpool endured a difficult 2020-21 campaign, but they were still ultimately able to secure a place in the top four. That would have looked unachievable with just a couple of months remaining in the season, but at least now, Jurgen Klopp can press ahead with plans to challenge for the title again next season.Â
Betfred betting already have Liverpool among the favourites for the league title next season, but there is no denying that they will need to strengthen if they are to close the gap on Manchester City. However, which players should the Anfield giants sign to improve the squad?
Youri Tielemans
The Reds are certainly in the market for a new central midfielder this summer after the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum to PSG on a free transfer. Renato Sanches is a player that has been linked with the club, but they could instead move for a player with proven Premier League experience.
Youri Tielemans is undeniably one of the most talented midfielders in the Premier League, and would improve any club side that he moved to. Liverpool have reportedly been monitoring his situation throughout the season and could pounce. He will likely not come cheap, but the Reds could certainly put a package together that would tempt the Foxes to sell one of their star men.Â
Ollie Watkins
Ollie Watkins enjoyed an excellent first season in the Premier League for Aston Villa, as he scored 14 goals in 37 league games. He also added five assists, and scored two goals in three EFL Cup games. Watkins was unfortunate to miss out on England selection this summer, as Gareth Southgate opted against taking the Villa man. However, as one of the best performers for Villa last season, there are a number of clubs that will be looking enviously at the striker this summer.
The 25-year-old has all the traits that would make for a fantastic signing, as he stretches defences and is able to play on both flanks, which could mean that he could swap in-game positions with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. The club will certainly be looking for a new striker this summer, as Roberto Firmino endured a disappointing season in front of goal. A striker is a must, and especially if they want to be one of the greatest of all time.Hi
Raheem Sterling
One signing that would be a gamechanger this summer for Liverpool could be bringing back Raheem Sterling to the club. It may not be a popular decision, but there is no denying that the winger could produce moments in big games when the club needs them. Sterling has spoken out about his frustration at City in the second half of the season, as he found game time hard to come by.
Sterling would be the perfect gambit for Klopp, which could mean a battle on numerous fronts for silverware that avoided the Reds last season. Sterling’s scoring record over the past couple of seasons has been excellent, as he has scored 65 goals in 133 games, as well as contributing 29 assists.
I was loving your article until you mentioned raheem sterling
