Let’s take a quick look at how the Liverpool players got on in recent days on international duty at the Euros and Copa America.
Shaqiri’s Swiss Delight
Xherdan Shaqiri has to be the happiest of LFC players right now. Liverpool and Switzerland’s number 23 played 73 minutes of his team’s pulsating 3-3 draw with France in Monday night’s last-sixteen clash in the Euros. His side went on to win on penalties and will now face Spain in Friday’s quarter-final.
Shaqiri has played his part in Switzerland’s impressive showing this summer, chipping in with two goals and one assist on their journey so far.
Thiago and Spain Progress
Thiago Alcâtara has still only played around 55 minutes of football over two games in Spain’s tournament so far. He was an unused substitute as his country needed extra time to dump Croatia out 5-3 on Monday.
Thiago and Shaqiri will meet on Friday in the Spain vs Switzerland quarter-final. For now, it seems the most Thiago can hope for is some minutes off the bench in the second half as Luis Enrique seems to prefer starting without him for now.
Euro Dreams End for Other LFC Stars
Neco Williams and Harry Wilson went out of the tournament with Wales losing 4-0 to Denmark on Saturday.
Williams was partly at fault for one Denmark goal, scuffing a clearance straight to the feet of a Denmark striker who finished easily.
Wilson was only on the pitch for 30 minutes as a second-half substitute. He then received a straight red card for a wreckless challenge in the dying moments of the game.
Brazilian Trio Feature Against Ecuador
Liverpool’s trio of Samba stars all played in their 1-1 draw with Ecuador on Sunday night in the Copa America. Alisson and Fabinho played the full 90 minutes while Roberto Firmino was taken off shortly after the hour mark.
Brazil had already secured top spot in Group B before this game. They can now look forward to their quarter-final clash with Chile on Saturday.
