Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté has been settling in well during his first pre-season training as a Jürgen Klopp recruit.
Konaté is now in Évian with the first-team squad having left their training camp in Austria for a change of scenery. The Reds will finally arrive back on Merseyside in the coming week.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com about their pre-season training routines and the intensity in the sessions, Konaté said:
“For sure [it’s tough], but I don’t care about this.
“We are here, we are a good and big team and we have to run and we have to win the intensity in the games. For this, the training is hard but when the work is hard we will be better.
“I’m sleeping well because I have to sleep and don’t have a choice! When I go to my bed I am tired and I have to sleep. I sleep immediately!”
Konaté has already featured for Liverpool in their friendlies with VfB Stuttgart, FSV Mainz, and Hertha BSC. He is also likely to play a big part in one of The Reds’ two matches that are set to be played against Italian club Bologna in France this Thursday.
“I am very happy to be here with the team, I am very happy to start my first minutes with the team,” he added. “I have a good relationship with all the players in the team and for this, I am very happy to be here.
“I can speak French with some players, but I can also speak English with other players – and German, too. It is easy to speak with the players and communicate, I don’t have a problem with this.”
With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both slowly returning to action, it will be a matter of another few weeks before Klopp hopefully has Konaté, Van Dijk, Gomez, and Joël Matip available for selection. It still looks likely, however, that Liverpool will face Norwich in their opening Premier League game with Konaté and Matip at the heart of the defence.
