Liverpool Transfer News: Yan Diomande, Bradley Barcola and a Summer Built Around Wingers
On Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, Dave Davis and David Lynch moved from the emotion of Liverpool’s final day into the business that now defines the summer, and the conversation quickly narrowed around one question, where does Liverpool find the winger it needs?
Davis framed it as “the business end of the season” giving way to “the summer business”, before pointing to Yan Diomande as a name that had gathered force. His summary was direct, “RB Leipzig winger Yande remains a priority when he’s talking about Salah’s replacement.” From there, Lynch made clear that Liverpool’s interest is not casual. “I think he’s going to be the number one winger target out of anyone who’s available on the market.”
Liverpool need wide attacking certainty
The Diomande discussion came after a broader assessment of Liverpool’s attack. Lynch had already warned that “they’ve got to make some more signings there this summer” and described the need for “a reliable source of 20 odd Premier League goals and, you know, 10 assists.” In that context, Liverpool’s winger search is not decorative. It is structural.
Lynch’s point was not that Diomande guarantees that output. In fact, he was careful to stress risk. “That’s not a guarantee of success,” he said, adding that Diomande “looks like the best available player out there to kind of help try and solve that problem.”
That is the heart of Liverpool’s dilemma. The club need immediate impact, but the market may be offering elite potential rather than finished certainty.
Yan Diomande as priority target
Lynch’s admiration for Yan Diomande was unmistakable. “He’s been the one who’s most concretely linked, the one that they seem to like the most,” he said. He also emphasised the data profile, “his numbers are just ridiculous.”
The concern is timing. Lynch called him “a teenager coming to a new league” and “the hardest league of all”, with “no space to operate in” and “all the physicality that goes on.” That matters because Liverpool, as Lynch put it, need someone who can “hit the ground running.”
Still, when asked whether Liverpool would push if they could, Davis put it plainly, “you do get the serious impression that if Liverpool can get this done, they’re just going to try and get it done.” Lynch later added, “he would definitely be a good signing.”

Bradley Barcola remains part of the equation
Davis then put the hierarchy simply, “it kind of feels like Diamande one, Barcola two at the moment.” Lynch agreed, “Yeah, definitely.”
Bradley Barcola enters the picture because PSG’s interest in Diomande could change the shape of the market. Lynch explained, “if they get him then Barcola is available.” He also said Barcola is “a player Liverpool have watched a lot and like for a while.”
There is a caveat. Lynch’s worry was positional, “he does kind of prefer that left hand side” and there is “not a lot of data on him playing on the right.” His conclusion was clear, “Liverpool definitely needs someone who’s capable of playing there.”
PSG factor sharpens Liverpool decision
The biggest obstacle may be PSG. Lynch said their interest is “a massive factor” and added, “you wouldn’t lean towards Liverpool being favourites at this moment.” Yet he also described a convincing Liverpool pitch, “you are going to start the majority of the games here” and “we need someone on that right hand side.”
For Liverpool, Yan Diomande looks like the priority, Bradley Barcola the logical alternative, and the need for a winger unavoidable. Lynch’s final assessment captured it best, “he really would be a perfect signing in so so many ways.”
