Liverpool’s 1-0 Premier League win against Manchester City reaffirmed their ability to fight for a top-four place this season. The Reds are also battling in the Champions League for the knockout rounds and will kick off their domestic cup campaigns in the coming weeks.

Liverpool signed striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a club-record fee in the summer. Now, the Reds could go back to Benfica to sign a midfielder. Portugal’s O Jogo claims Liverpool could sign Benfica’s Florentino Luis in the winter transfer window. Although Luis signed a new contract with the Eagles at the beginning of October, the Portuguese media outlet claims Liverpool could meet the player’s £104 million release clause.
In addition, the Reds are linked with Luis’s Benfica teammate Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine has turned heads this season with two fantastic performances against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The 21-year-old also has a £104m release clause.
O Jogo’s claims that Liverpool could sign either Luis or Fernandez is in line with the club’s recent transfer work in Portugal. However, Liverpool have already shortlisted Jude Bellingham as a transfer target in the summer of 2023. A transfer Bellingham would likely cost Liverpool around £100m, as Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and other teams enter the race to sign the England international.
The Reds will need to address multiple areas of the midfield next offseason, however. Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain are both out of contract at the end of the current season. Neither has made an appearance in the league or Champions League this season. Both players are likely to leave on a free transfer.
James Milner is also out of contract next summer and could exit Anfield. Meanwhile, Curtis Jones has played a minor role at Anfield, and Liverpool could finally move the academy graduate on. Liverpool have one of the oldest teams in terms of age in the Premier League.
