Liverpool Shifts Focus Away from Khephren Thuram
The Reds Close Chapter on Thuram Pursuit
After a series of speculation and early summer talks, Liverpool have officially concluded their pursuit of Nice’s rising star, Khephren Thuram. This update comes from Anfield Index podcaster David Lynch, writing for This Is Anfield.
The Reds initially considered Thuram as a potential asset in their planned summer overhaul of the midfield. Yet, Liverpool’s recruitment staff have now definitively decided against advancing the prospect of his inclusion.

The Reds Secure Dominik Szoboszlai
Instead of pushing for Thuram, Liverpool pulled off a major coup, securing Hungarian midfield maestro Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. Over the weekend, the Merseyside giants finalised a €70 million deal with the Bundesliga side, exploiting a release clause in Szoboszlai’s contract.
Szoboszlai is now slated to join Alexis Mac Allister in Liverpool’s transformative midfield refresh, representing a powerhouse combo for the upcoming season.
The Race for Romeo Lavia Intensifies
Although Szoboszlai’s signing has seemingly fulfilled Liverpool’s midfield quota, the Reds are not putting the brakes on their summer scouting. With their interest in Thuram evaporated, attention has shifted towards another hot prospect, Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.
Lavia, a youthful dynamo who transferred from Manchester City last summer, is turning heads at Anfield. His stellar performance for the Saints last season, despite their unfortunate relegation, was noted by Liverpool’s recruitment team. However, they’re not the only ones watching; Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Arsenal are also in the hunt for the 19-year-old talent.

The Price for Lavia
The dynamic midfielder’s departure from Manchester City involved a £40 million buyback clause, only viable in 2024. But rivals, including Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal, look to act swiftly, aiming to secure the young star this summer.
The competition for Lavia is escalating, and Southampton reportedly hold a hefty price tag for their prized gem – a cool £50 million. But with Liverpool’s commitment to reinforcing their squad, don’t rule out a firm offer coming in the near future.
#LFC apparently had all their ducks aligned for #Thuram deal after U21 Euros.
Have to consider 2 factors:
1. #Szoboszlai deal with release clause triggered meant HUGE outlay & no installments.
2. #Lavia when required will be homegrown, Kephren never will, so no exits needed.
