Klopp’s Squad Shuffle
The inaugural pre-season friendly saw a slew of 23 different Liverpool warriors making their mark on the pitch. A mere five days hence, Jurgen Klopp gets another chance to explore his battalion’s strength and depth.
This time, it’s Greuther standing on the other side, an adversary from the 2.Bundesliga, never before encountered by Liverpool. An interesting match, this one is set to unfurl away from the prying eyes of an audience.
Yet, the fans needn’t worry. The game can still be followed online, ensuring you don’t miss a moment of Liverpool’s closing game on German soil. A Singaporean adventure waits, post this match.
Pre-season Injury Update
Liverpool’s players will be raring to go, with today’s match against the German second-tier team, SpVgg Greuther Fürth. This follows hot on the heels of their 4-2 victory over fellow 2. Bundesliga team, Karlsruher.
In the first summer friendly, Alisson Becker remained a spectator. Yet, recent sightings of the Brazilian on the training ground have set the rumour mill churning. However, Dominik Szoboszlai is unlikely to make the team sheet owing to a minor ankle niggle.
Yesterday it was reported that the Hungarian attacking midfielder, currently out of training, might be preserved for future battles. With no urgency to risk him, this is more of a precautionary move than a pressing concern.
In the recovery wing, Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić are fighting their way back after injuries cut their season short. Although Bajčetić was seen training solo, he hasn’t been integrated into team training yet.
Meanwhile, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott rejoined the squad after an extended break, following their international duty which saw England claim the U21 European Championships.
Lack of options might see Trent Alexander-Arnold continuing his tenure in the midfield while someone like James McConnell may see increased minutes. The first match saw a sharp Diogo Jota, a scoring Darwin Núñez, and a promising Ben Doak, all of whom might get more opportunities.
After this match, Liverpool set course for Singapore for friendly matches against Leicester City and Bayern Munich. The pre-season will wind down with a final match against another German side, SV Darmstadt, to be hosted at Deepdale, the home of Preston North End.
Kick-Off Details
The match whistle will begin at 12pm (BST), or 1pm in Germany, 7am USA East, 4am USA Westa and 9pm in Australia.
