Salah’s Potential Exit: Souness Weighs In

Amid the summer transfer window hustle, former Anfield star, Graeme Souness, shares his insights about Mo Salah’s potential move from Liverpool. The heat is on as the clock ticks, and every Liverpool fan waits in suspense.

A Tempting Offer for Liverpool

With murmurs circulating about Mohamed Salah’s potential move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, football’s grapevine is buzzing. The figure being discussed? A staggering £128million. This sort of valuation for a 31-year-old forward is genuinely unprecedented.

Adding fuel to the fire is the proposed annual salary of approximately £191million for Salah. Such a significant proposition could, quite possibly, tempt the ‘Egyptian King’ away from his Merseyside throne.

The Imprint of Salah on Liverpool’s Ambitions

In a candid discussion with TalkSPORT, Souness explained the potential impact of such a departure, “Obviously if he were to leave it would put an enormous dent in their hopes and aspirations for this season. Enormous.”

Further emphasising Liverpool’s recent performance, he added, “Liverpool were fabulous last weekend at Newcastle. The manager’s tactics were spot on, and you couldn’t have scripted it any better.”

Salah’s exit could essentially mean subtracting 20+ goals from Liverpool’s season tally. The underlying question then emerges: who would fill that void?

The Business Aspect: FSG’s Dilemma

“They are hard-nosed businessmen from North America,” Souness reflects, indicating that FSG would likely be looking at the long-term financial implications. “A year from now, what sort of money would we get for Mo Salah? Would the money still be there? Could Mo Salah get injured or have a subpar season?”

Such uncertainties aren’t new for Liverpool. Just this summer, Fabinho departed, enticed by Al-Ittihad’s £40million bid. Had the offer been any less lucrative, the Brazilian might still be sporting Liverpool red.

This series of events led Souness to speculate, “So, I wouldn’t be surprised if they took the money. I’d be disappointed as a Liverpool supporter, but I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s no obvious replacement that can go and get 20 goals.”

The Clock is Ticking

As we near the climax of the summer transfer saga, one burning question remains: When Liverpool squares off against Aston Villa this Sunday, will Salah be donning the iconic red?

“It’s one to watch,” concludes Souness. And indeed, for every Liverpool supporter and football enthusiast, it is.
