Dominik Szoboszlai: Liverpool’s New Midfield Marvel
When Liverpool entered the transfer window at the end of last season’s disappointing campaign, I was hopeful that a solid summer of change would be undertaken, where we might stand a chance of signing England’s exciting footballing star, Jude Bellingham. Ultimately, the extraordinary economics of that deal forced the reds out of the bidding war. Despite seeing his wonderful start to life with Real Madrid, I am no longer concerned that we missed out on the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder, as it led us to something just as special. In falling short with what the Anfield paymasters could offer for Bellingham, it forced the recruitment team to look at a player I did not believe we had a chance of signing. Dominik Szoboszlai was and is a player that is a ridiculously elite specimen of attacking intent and determination. The comparisons to Steven Gerrard are not premature and I doubt our Hungarian skipper would be fazed by any perceived pressure anyway. The young man that has only just turned 23-years-of age, is very quickly closing in on the tag of world class, which seems inevitable at this stage.

The Sunday afternoon visit of Nottingham Forest didn’t seem to worry the supporters, given the level of confidence certain players are exuding at the moment. Sensational displays and spectacular moments are spreading throughout the vibrant and revitalised squad, one that isn’t solely reliant on key moments from a few star players. This injection of new blood is fuelling Jürgen Klopp and the fanbase towards hope that silverware can be attained, as early as this ongoing 2023/24 campaign.

Our £60m capture from RB Leipzig was once again brilliant today, showing the level of talent that still makes it hard to believe that he is all ours. There seems to be no weakness to the game of our new number 8, with a ferocious desire to win at all costs. His assist for Darwin’s goal was venomous and he is now intertwining beautifully with our other offensive players. The flow and pace in our patterns of play almost seemed to hinge on the whim of Dominik Szoboszlai, as he tormented and ran the Forest players ragged. As Liverpool sit firmly in fourth place (just one point off both Manchester City and Arsenal), it is building up towards one of the most tightly fought Premier League contests since its inception. Tottenham are enjoying a wonderful season under their new manager, Ange Postecoglou, who has rejuvenated his North London club to the top of the current league standings, which means there are four genuine challengers for the English League title.

I suspect the winners of major success will come down to the brilliance of a few individuals, certain footballing assets that enable elite transformative offerings to their respective teams. Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri are the perfect examples of players that can drive their Etihad club to the highest of highs, whereas I now see Dominik Szoboszlai joining Mohamed Salah, as players that can carry their teammates to victory, time and time again. Today’s display of midfield prowess was infectious, reflecting numerous qualities. I no longer consider our 6ft 1inch force of nature as the man we chose after losing the battle for Jude, but more someone that will rival the Bernabéu sensation for the direction of their careers.
Today there was only one candidate for man of the match, which was a Hungarian bulldozer, Dominik Szoboszlai.
