Amorim & Edwards are the Perfect Anfield Combination
Following the Paul Joyce initiated news that Xabi Alonso will be staying in Germany beyond this season, the follow up reports created understandable dismay in large sections of the Liverpool fanbase. Many of the support had been convinced that the former Liverpool player would be the chosen successor to the legendary Jürgen Klopp, who announced earlier in the year that he would be departing Anfield after this season. Due to the unbelievable success that the 42-year-old Alonso is enjoying in the Bundesliga this season, it more than validated the Bayer Leverkusen manager’s credentials for the Merseyside post, however, If the news of his non arrival proves correct, I would be delighted if that meant that the new Liverpool CEO, Michael Edwards, has settled on another young and exciting head coach.
🚨 Liverpool & Bayern Munich expect Xabi Alonso to stay at Bayer Leverkusen. #LFC under that impression for some time so no shock + plans being refined to appoint Klopp successor focus on other candidates @TheAthleticFC after @_pauljoyce #Bayer04 #FCBayern https://t.co/wS5NfuC7un

Is Rúben Amorim the Right Man for The Job…?
Despite there being no certainties in the world of football, the 39-year-old Portuguese man ticks every managerial box imaginable. His elevation from Braga reserve team coach to Sporting Lisbon manager has been astounding, which is something only matched by the success he continues to enjoy with the current Primeira Liga leaders. With a continual trend of producing elite level players from near obscurity, the highly regarded tactician appears the most talented option available to the Anfield giants right now. Though it is clearly heartbreaking to see a world class manager leave Merseyside, the acquisition of this exciting manager would surely see him thrive under the stewardship of Edwards and his newly appointed Sporting Director, Richard Hughes.
At just 34-years-old, the former Benfica player was installed as Braga B head coach, upon retirement from playing. Following just three months in charge of the reserve side, Rúben Amorim replaced the first team manager, Ricardo Sá Pinto, due to his impact aligning with the senior side’s regression. After just ten games in charge of Braga, the positive effect was so dramatic that Sporting Lisbon paid a €10m buy out to install him as their own first team coach, after seeing him at work for just two months.
Below are Amorim’s achievements in just 4 years in management.
Braga
Taça da Liga: 2019–20
Sporting Lisbon
Primeira Liga: 2020–21
Taça da Liga: 2020–21, 2021–22
Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira: 2022
Primeira Liga’s Manager of the Month
February 2021
April 2021
October 2021
November 2021
September 2023
December 2023
January 2024
Primeira Liga’s Manager of the Season
2021
We have all seen firsthand the massive effect that Michael Edwards had in his first stint as a Liverpool executive, which is why I have no doubt that that brilliance can be repeated and that the right managerial appointment will be undertaken. To combine a world-renowned sporting head with one of the world’s outstanding young coaches is tantalizing, something that makes the Xabi Alonso news a non-issue for me. My hope is that the reds can attain the services of a man that has continually overcome all challenges in Portugal, therefore, if Rúben Amorim is the man to land one of the biggest jobs in world football, it could see Liverpool v2.0 rise once more to the pinnacle of the game.
Well now seems a decent time to reshare this we did for @AnfieldIndex #LFC https://t.co/C8NuLRKmQw
