Liverpool 2 – 1 Brighton: Who Was Liverpool’s Man of the Match?
The year of 2024 has almost certainly been the year of Alexis Mac Allister thus far, with the World Cup winner now playing the best football of his elevating career. After a summer where far too many people marvelled at the £105m capture of Declan Rice (to Arsenal), no one can be in any doubt that the £35m acquisition of the former Brighton man appears far more important business.
🇦🇷 What a player Alexis Mac Allister is. Another great game from him.

Impressing Against his Former Club
With Brighton arriving to Anfield for the post international break, it was always going to be a tricky affair to overcome a team that has outperformed expectations under Roberto De Zerbi. Given that the Seagulls are the club which gave the man of the match his big European break a few years ago, one may assume the 25-year-old would stutter to find his lines again his former teammates. Luckily for the nervy home support, he was able to dominate the middle ground and orchestrate a win that was filled with players underperforming.

The continuing combination of Alexis and his midfield partner, Wataru Endō, has been one of the more critical circumstances in this season which could still bring so much glory. The most unlikely of allies was formed last summer, however, it was only after the Asia Cup ended in January, did the partnership form, and subsequently unleash the Liverpool number 10 into a controlling and less defensive position. The all-around game of the 5ft 9inch middle man is world class and the next manager will almost certainly build his team around the Argentina international. With six chances created in the match, his production was not equalled by his largely misfiring forwards. After achieving 92% pass completion and six recoveries in the match, the impact on this Easter Sunday game was once again emphatic and his continuing brilliant form may well be the driving force to an end of season flurry of silverware.
Stepping Up When it Matters Most
All that mattered today was the three points and a move back to the top of the table. Alexis Mac Allister was instrumental in making those two things happen, which makes the later Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal draw makes his man of the match display and match winning bassist even more vital.
Next up is the midweek visit of Sheffield United, where the need to solidify a top of the table place is imperative. The reds now have a two-point lead at the top of the 20234/24 Premier League, which with just nine games to go is a wonderful reality. The Glorious management reign of Liverpool’s manager may be coming to and end in just a coup of months’ time, however, this afternoon’s man of the match, Alexis Mac Allister, is doing his best to ensure the incoming parade around the city is adorned with as many trophies as humanly possible.
