Liverpool Set for £9m Financial Boost Due to Another Michael Edwards Masterstroke
During his time at Liverpool, Sporting Director Michael Edwards has been credited for numerous strokes of genius when dealing with departures from the club. The savvy transfer specialist could be set to prove his worth once again, this time from a transfer clause set all the way back in 2019.
Five years ago, Liverpool sold Dominic Solanke to AFC Bournemouth for a transfer fee of £21.20million, according to Transfermarkt. This is relevant today as the current release clause in Solanke’s contract has been unveiled as he eyes a summer move. With that being said, how does that impact Liverpool?

Solanke’s Hefty Release Clause
According to reports, Solanke’s release clause stands at around £65million, which would mark a significant piece of business done by Liverpool’s current director Richard Hughes, during his time on the South coast.
Clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have been heavily linked with a summer move for Solanke and have been tipped to be eyeing that release clause as a way to bypass negotiations with the Cherries.
Impact on Liverpool
Should Solanke’s release clause be triggered this summer, Liverpool could be in line to receive 20% of the profit made by Bournemouth. A sale of £65million would represent a profit of £43.8million for Andoni Iraola’s side.
With that 20% clause, Liverpool could receive approximately £9million from any deal for the 26-year-old forward this summer. This again shows the brilliance of Michael Edwards and also his new partner Richard Hughes, who is responsible for such an impressive profit in this deal for Bournemouth.
Looking Ahead
In a summer where player sales are being named as a way to raise funds for Michael Edwards’ search into the transfer market, this injection of cash could go quite a long way in securing one of their summer targets. For example, that £9million could pay for most of the transfer fee for a back-up goalkeeper that the Reds are expected to need once Caoimhin Kelleher’s summer departure is agreed.
According to reports, Liverpool are also eyeing reinforcements in the defensive line with players like Willian Pacho, Piero Hinacapie and Levi Colwill all being linked with a potential Anfield switch.
In the forward positions, the likes of PSV’s Johan Bakayoko and Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise have also been linked with a move to Merseyside. Either way, it’s promising to be an exciting summer of change for the Reds, especially with the imminent arrival of Arne Slot who will be determined to put his plans into action as soon as possible.
