Harvey Elliott Can Be Central to Liverpool’s Season

As Liverpool Football Clubs preseason tour of the US ends, the fanbase can quite rightly be excited about what could unfold under the new Head Coach, Arne Slot. Despite the love and affection for the former manager, Jürgen Klopp, there can be no doubting that the pinnacle of his own illustrious tenure had already been reached, with an inevitable decline clearly incoming. The excellence and experience of the former Borussia Dortmund boss, allowed his coaching staff and a raft of senior players to produce a solid last season in the Premier League, culminating in a third placed finish and a well-deserved EFL Cup trophy.

Throughout that final campaign, we saw several players rise to the fore and throw themselves into the conversation for a starting place under the new regime. One of those names was of course the enthusiastic and super substitute, Harvey Elliott, who has carried last season’s good form into this own preseason, therefore, will most certainly be making a case to be a starting individual when the Merseyside club travel to face Ipswich Town in a couple of weeks’ time.

What Position Best Suits Harvey Elliott Next Season?

Under the new guidance of the former Feyenoord manager, I genuinely feel that within an exciting 4-2-3-1 system of play, the former Fulham academy graduate can become an excellent number 10 behind a central striker. To imagine this intricate and excellent ballplaying midfielder slotted in between both Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz (whilst creating havoc in behind either Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota), could enable the exact ingredients to bring the best from a player who sometimes struggled to identify in the 4-3-3 formation of old.

As a common Egyptian King back up, the slightly altered system of play would mean an opening for the young Liverpool fan, one who times was overwhelmed and overpowered when tasked into a midfield position. Regarding the midfield positions that will be forthcoming, it appears that a midfield double pivot will allow all the defensive and controlling elements to fight for those two spots, thus creating an attractive attacking midfield spot that will be central to Liverpool‘s patterns of play. England’s under-21 international star, Elliott, has all the trickery and intelligence to add to his eagerness to succeed, which could in turn make him central to his new Head Coaches plans.

Are Additions Likely to Alter Harvey’s Chances?

With the transfer window likely to kick off for the Anfield giants this week, I suspect the signing of a defensive midfielder and the left sided defender will be the main acquisitions, with any attacking player (such as the much rumoured, Anthony Gordon, or Mohammed Kudus) only coming into consideration if Barcelona were to pay £75m for the Colombian flyer, Luis Díaz. In any circumstance, I do not see a signing that would come in and affect the chances of Liverpool‘s 21-year-old playmaker, Harvey.

The opportunity has arisen for a clean slate to the whole squad and for loyalties of old to be set aside. Those that may have become comfortable and looked upon as indispensable under the previous manager, will now have to fight for their place and their stripes by right.

If there is one player that exudes the enthusiasm desired and one that a new Head Coach might be drawn to most, then that would surely be the Surrey born number 19, who may just be promoted to a starting role and become a mainstay in the first team elite.
