Fabrizio Romano Confirms Liverpool’s Intentions to Sign £30m Star
The mood and atmosphere amongst Liverpool fans was at rock bottom following Martin Zubimendi’s rejection of a £51million move to Anfield, but the Reds have turned their attentions to a new transfer target according to Fabrizio Romano. That player is Valencia goalkeeper Giorgio Mamardashvili, who could be available for around £30million this summer.
The transfer expert initially reported on August 12th that Liverpool were ‘seriously considering’ making a move for the 23-year-old with the intention of loaning him out once completing an agreement. Romano also confirmed that the player was ‘keen’ on the move and things have seemingly only intensified since then…

Fabrizio Romano: ‘Deal On’
This morning saw Romano provide a short but significant update on the saga, following reports from Spain suggesting that Liverpool were pushing for the deal. Speaking on X, the transfer expert simply stated: “Mamardashvili and Liverpool, deal on. More to follow.”
It remains to be seen what the next update in this transfer saga will be, but it’s certainly looking promising for the Reds, who could be about to capture their first signing of the summer.

Do Liverpool Need Giorgio Mamardashvili?
Claiming that another goalkeeper is a necessity for Liverpool perhaps wouldn’t be correct, but that doesn’t mean that this wouldn’t be an incredibly smart deal for the Reds. At just 23-years-old, Mamardashvili has already become one of the most talented goalkeepers in the world and whilst Alisson Becker remains at the pinnacle, those links with a potential move to Saudi Arabia remain persistent.
On top of that, Caoimhin Kelleher has been incredibly vocal on his desire to find first-team football, whether that be at Liverpool or elsewhere. Let’s also not get it twisted, Mamardashvili is considerably a better goalkeeper than Kelleher and has much more potential to become Liverpool’s number one in the upcoming years.
More on Mamardashvili
The Georgian keeper has 100 senior appearances to his name for Valencia and recently enjoyed a stellar EURO 2024. This has undoubtedly catapulted him onto the radar of top clubs across the world, but Liverpool seem to be leading the race.
According to transfermarkt.com, his current value sits at around €45million – suggesting Liverpool could be in for a bargain at the price of €35million. As mentioned above though, the expectation remains for Mamardashvili to be loaned out once an agreement with Liverpool has been reached.
That could see him actually return to Valencia on loan, which could explain the favourable finances involved in the deal with Liverpool. Premier League clubs have also been reported to hold an interest in Mamardashvili, with AFC Bournemouth certainly holding a strong interest in the 23-year-old.
Keep an eye out on Anfield Index for all of the latest updates as Liverpool look to finally wrap up their first deal of the summer.
