So much of the summer months was spent wondering how the world class player of Merseyside would fit into the team which built him, as well as the England side which has continually disrespected him.

With a renewed confidence and the introduction of Ibrahima Konaté (to add power and pace) to the right side of defence, Trent Alexander Arnold was able to further explore the pitch and force his teammates to run alongside him. Following a superb passing performance and crossing endeavour in this tantalising period, the visitors were able to take the England players creation and snatch the game away from a courageous hosting team.

The absurdity of the number 66 is at times unparalleled in all of world football and this game shows that a solid return to his natural right back position, can create further superlatives from his adoring fanbase.

Never mind the angst of not signing a No 6 and losing sleep about players who don’t want to join the club.
The most pressing issue is this: get Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract sorted and get it done quickly.

The stage is set for a strong season and now comes the moment to nail down a contract extension for today’s man of the match, Trent Alexander Arnold. The pathway for the continuing regeneration should be built around players such as the vice captain, with today’s result perhaps solidifying his commitment under new leadership. 

With Lee Carsley now appointed to the interim role of England Head Caoch, hopefully a similar undertaking can be carried out at the next gathering of international games. Many awards will be handed out at the back end of this season and based upon today’s stellar performance of the 26-year-old, he could be heavily involved in attaining some of that silverware. If there was anyone doubting the defensive output of the much maligned playmaker, then the concentration and intensity was there for all to see.
