Liverpool’s 3-0 Victory at Old Trafford: Key Lessons Learned from a Dominant Display

‘The ball….the ball…..you hardly touched the ball…’ This wasn’t the 5-0 off. Few years ago, but it wouldn’t have flattered Liverpool and but for better finishing, it would have been. Old Trafford began to empty early though as we soaked it all up and Arne Sot became the first Liverpool manager in the premier league era to win his first visit t down the East Lancs. The travelling kop were in fine voice as they watched their idols take the three points and every bit of pride back down the M62. Mick Hucknall, James Nesbitt, Mark Goldbridge and Eamonn Holmes….your boys took a hell of a beating.

Diaz Double Continues Strong Start

He’d actually spent most of the first half giving the ball away repeatedly and you wondered if it was one of this days. However, those fears were soon dispelled as the Colombian winger put us two up at the break. The first one was a controlled header into an open net and his biggest difficulty was about making sure Szoboszlai got out the way. The second was a controlled and swiveled finish having found space in the middle of the area. We’d have never have used the word controlled about him last season, but the new style and adjusted role is suiting him massively. Let’s hope it carries on.

Salah Is Peerless

To score two goals at Old Trafford and been miles away from the man of the match shows just how good Mo Salah was here. He made both goals with a brilliant chipped pass for the first and a perfect weight with the outside of the boot for Diaz’s second. You knew he wanted a goal though and he wasn’t going to pass up Szoboszlai’s perfectly weighted pass to tuck in a third and bring out that magic bow. He talked about his future at the end of the game and said no-one had spoken to him about it. Bring me the head of Richard Hughes if that isn’t rectified very very shortly. Ramy be damned. Get this one done.

Best Of The Rest

There was so much good that it’s hard to cover it in depth so we’ll go on a whirlwind tour. Gravenberch was again immense and broke up play, passed it well and was sensational on the half-turn. All in a 6 and 8 at times role. Another clean sheet is great and Alisson made a couple of great saves. Szoboszlai was all action and grabbed an assist, although I’d fine him for that miss and messing around, but that’s just me. There was even time at the death for Darwin Nunez to put one wide and run offside. Arne Slot gave the travelling kop a salute too and couldn’t have done anymore here. What a time to be alive.
