Liverpool 4-0 Bayer Leverkusen – Champions League Man of the Match
Luis Díaz
Liverpool FC
This season has been close to sensational for the reds Columbian superstar, Luis Díaz, who continues to evolve under scintillating new leadership and tactical direction. As soon as the team sheet was announced, I was hopeful that Cody Gakpo would remain as the left sided forward (where he has excelled), which would enable the reds South American no.23, Luis Díaz, an opportunity to roam and destroy against the reigning Bundesliga champions.

That last part is exactly what transpired.
I was primed to start writing up an article on the brilliance and influence of Curtis Jones in this game, as his control and intelligence on the pitch was a superb example of what is regenerating under the Dutch boss, Arne Slot. His wondrous assist for the opening goal was a combination of brilliant vision from the midfield man, as well as a perfectly timed run by the eventual Columbian goal scorer. With the keeper approaching and no time to decipher a route forward, the 27-year-old merely lifted the ball over the goalkeepers advancing body and the second half (which had been brimming since the break), finally erupted under the famous Anfield lights.
The second goal (by the evenings man of the match) was a pure strikers finish, as a well taken goal was achieved by great poisoning in the eighteenth-yard box, before sublime footwork enabled the goal. The third (and hat trick earning strike) was taken with aplomb, which saw the wiry wide-man solidify his growing confidence to become an elite centre forward. Mohamed Salah was prolific in his service also, as he provided two superb assists in the encounter.
This second half has been sensational by Liverpool.
The magic of Anfield coming to the fore yet again.

The second half was nothing short of sensational, something which came about after a controlled first half of play. The variation and drive of this new Liverpool enterprise is magnificent to watch, something which was epitomized by the man with three goals and the lion’s share of the plaudits, Lucho. Just earlier I was writing a piece detailing how the left sided role would accommodate the two in form wingers, whereas now the central striking performance merely shows just how flexible and versatile this attacking group can be.
Next up the visit of Aston Villa, where the front here may have just picked itself.
Pre-match Prediction; Liverpool 2 – 1 Bayer Leverkusen
