Despite absolutely dominating the Premier League this season, there are plenty of notable flaws in this Liverpool side. After crashing out of the Champions League and losing the League Cup final, various pundits have spoken on the need to add greater firepower to the attack.

The Reds may well be in the market for a new striker in the summer, and there’s one name that could help them while also hurting their rivals. Victor Boniface has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea, and there’s a strong argument that Liverpool should swoop for the Nigerian.

Sharing the Responsibility With Salah

Mohamed Salah has carried Liverpool this season, and that responsibility could be taking a toll on the player. With the Egyptian player now looking likely to stay, part of the bargaining process could have involved promising to bring in more attackers to help him out. Salah’s current teammates in the attacking positions don’t possess the same quality as the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, so Salah is finding that he has to do more.

Liverpool have been dead certs across of number of football betting sites to win the Premier League this term and have completely dominated the division. They were odds-on to win the title at 1/33 with nine games left to play, with closest rivals Arsenal backed at 22/1. There’s no denying, though, that they have been helped by Manchester City experiencing a tumultuous campaign. Pep Guardiola will likely strengthen again in the summer, meaning that Liverpool must do the same.

Arne Slot will have analysed the weaknesses of his side, and is likely to have concluded that the central striker position is the one that needs filling most of all. Darwin Nunez is too unreliable, and Diogo Jota struggles to maintain regular fitness. Therefore, a new striker is essential. There are various options out there, and Boniface could be the one to go for.

Other Sides Interested in Boniface

It has been widely reported that Manchester United are interested in signing Boniface in the summer, with the Old Trafford club having their own problems up front. There was the possibility of acquiring him in the January transfer window, but this ultimately fell through. Chelsea could also be in the market for a new striker, as they are desperately in need of a greater source of goals.

If Liverpool went in for Boniface, it could hurt two of their key rivals by depriving them of a vital player. At the same time, it would strengthen the Reds’ attack greatly. The 24-year-old’s record at Bayer Leverkusen has been highly impressive to date, with 21 goals in 38 league appearances. In 2023, he broke into the Nigerian national team as well, and has since made 11 appearances for the Super Eagles.

The only problem with going in for a player like Boniface is that he’s by no means the finished article. There’s clearly potential for greatness, and playing alongside players like Salah could help him unlock that. However, Slot may be keener to bring in a player who can instantly upgrade his options in attack. The worry is that, if he ends up going to a different Premier League side and makes a huge difference, Liverpool may end up regretting not going for him.
