Salah Believes Liverpool’s New Era Under Slot Has Only Just Begun

Premier League title the launchpad, not the pinnacle

Mohamed Salah has seen it all at Liverpool – record-breaking goalscoring feats, European nights that echoed through Anfield history, and now a long-awaited 20th league title. But for the Egyptian forward, this isn’t the conclusion of a golden chapter – it’s the beginning of a new one.

Under the leadership of Arne Slot, the Dutchman who succeeded Jürgen Klopp in May 2024, Liverpool have rekindled their domestic dominance. With four games to spare, Slot’s team clinched the Premier League title in a style that felt both clinical and transformative. And for Salah, now a senior statesman at the club, the feeling is as rich as it is fresh.

“Well, this season I won the Premier League and I think I never felt happier in the club for eight years like this moment in the Spurs game,” Salah told Sky Sports.

Champions League return remains the burning ambition

Despite the domestic glory, Salah’s hunger remains unabated. In a Liverpool squad brimming with youthful energy and guided by experienced heads like his own, he sees a team ready to challenge Europe’s best once again.

“I really wish [that] we win the Champions League again. I know the Premier League is always nice for the club, that’s how it should be, but I think I would love to win the Champions League again and the Premier League again – at least one in the two years,” Salah added.

“It’s good: the players are new, the players are excited, the players are young. They learn from us [the senior players] and they also have their ability to give it all, so I think we have a very good group and I think we can win every trophy that we can want.”

Respect and clarity defining Slot’s early tenure

Behind the scenes, it’s clear that Slot’s immediate success has been grounded not just in tactics but in trust. Salah’s relationship with the manager appears to be one of mutual understanding and open communication.

“We had a few honest conversations between us [last summer] and he was very honest and he showed me a few clips of mine and said, ‘With this Mo we can win everything, with this one we can’t win much. So, I want to get the best out of you, I want this one to be available the whole season and I want you to have your best years coming with me.’”

Salah continued: “I said, ‘OK, let me know what you want from me then I will do it because I’m very professional and I know what I can do.’ So, he didn’t challenge me, honestly. I just felt it was like he was very respectful and I told him that, ‘You’re a very respectful person.’”

That clarity has had an impact. The Liverpool forward spoke of a manager who isn’t wedded to rigid ideology but instead adapts, corrects, and evolves – in real time.

Tactical flexibility key to Liverpool’s revival

Salah also praised Slot’s in-game acumen, especially his readiness to adjust and out-think opponents when it matters most.

“I think in the first few games, in the second half he always changed the tactics. Not just that [substitutions], the tactics themselves,” he explained.

“You go to the game and you see some managers like, ‘This is my style and you have to do it the whole game,’ but he’s adapting somehow to how our opponent is playing and just like putting Dominik [Szoboszlai] in a different position, putting Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] in a different position… he doesn’t have that ego that, ‘OK, these are my tactics and it didn’t work but it will work in the second half.’

“No, no, no. He can adapt around. And in my head that’s very clever, very disciplined.”

Slot has not only reinvigorated Liverpool’s playing style, but seems to have created an environment where senior players feel both valued and challenged in equal measure. In Mohamed Salah, he’s got a world-class talent playing with joy, purpose, and the belief that Liverpool can return to the summit of Europe again.
