Liverpool Step Up Pursuit of Florian Wirtz
Bayer Leverkusen’s managing director Simon Rolfes has confirmed Liverpool’s “concrete interest” in Florian Wirtz, with talks accelerating ahead of a potential move.
Speaking at a press conference to unveil Erik ten Hag as the Bundesliga club’s new head coach, Rolfes said, “There is concrete interest from Liverpool, but there’s no more to say right now. Florian is our player.”

According to Sky Sports News, Wirtz is now actively considering leaving Germany, and Liverpool’s chances of securing the 22-year-old’s signature have “increased significantly”.
Sky in Germany’s Florian Plettenberg added that negotiations between Liverpool and Leverkusen are “progressing positively and at full speed”, with the Germany international currently waiting for “the green light for a medical”.
Wirtz and Frimpong Could Head to Anfield
The potential arrival of Wirtz is part of a wider recruitment push. Liverpool are also closing in on his club team-mate, Jeremie Frimpong, with both deals expected to reinforce key areas of the pitch.

Tom Werner, speaking as chairman of Liverpool, emphasised the club’s urgency. “It’s already busy,” he said. “We go again. It never gets old, winning. We owe it to all of our supporters to bring back a team even better next season.”
The message is clear — there’s no room for complacency at Anfield.
Our View – Anfield Index Analysis
If this Wirtz deal goes through, it could be the most exciting piece of business since Liverpool brought in Mohamed Salah. Wirtz is not just another talented playmaker. He’s a creative engine with exceptional spatial awareness, a mature decision-maker in the final third, and, crucially, someone who can unlock deep-lying defences — something Liverpool lacked in certain moments last season.
The fact that Simon Rolfes is openly confirming Liverpool’s “concrete interest” shows this isn’t smoke and mirrors. And when Florian Plettenberg says it’s moving “at full speed”, you sit up. This isn’t a slow burner. It’s a live-wire situation.
Pairing Wirtz with Jeremie Frimpong, who brings energy and width at right-back, would represent a massive step towards Arne Slot building a Liverpool squad in his own image — dynamic, sharp, and technically fearless.
Tom Werner’s comments feel pointed too. “We owe it to all of our supporters…” — that’s not just PR. That’s pressure. Liverpool know expectations are high and after reclaiming the Premier League title, standing still simply isn’t an option.
If Wirtz does land at Anfield this summer, it would be a statement signing — not just for Liverpool, but for the entire league.
