Fresh Faces in Key Roles
Liverpool’s summer transfer business reflects a clear plan to evolve rather than rebuild. Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz have all arrived and are expected to start from August. On paper, Kerkez and Frimpong replace Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but their styles differ sharply from their predecessors. They are attacking full-backs, but they bring a new dynamic to the team.
With half the back line changing, defensive chemistry will take time to develop. If another centre-back arrives, Virgil van Dijk could be the only remaining title-winner in defence. The front line also needs reshaping to get the best out of Wirtz. His arrival will likely have ripple effects in midfield too.
Slot’s System Overhaul
Concerns about disruption are valid, but Arne Slot’s adaptability provides reassurance. He is not wedded to rigid tactics and has already shown he can shape a squad to suit his footballing vision. Slot is building something new, not for the sake of it, but to improve what was already strong.

Kerkez is already familiar with the Premier League, while Frimpong will need to adjust. Wirtz faces the biggest leap, moving from the Bundesliga to the intense pace of English football. While defenders may target him early, his awareness and creativity should help him cope. And if opponents focus too much on Wirtz, Mohamed Salah will gladly exploit the extra space.
Konate Contract Questions
Ibrahima Konate’s future is uncertain. With only a year left on his deal and no progress in talks, Liverpool may consider selling him. Though linked with Marc Guehi, there is no urgency yet. Still, Konate’s wage demands may not match his performance level, and questions remain about whether he can step into Van Dijk’s role.
Elliott’s Tough Timing
Harvey Elliott’s talent is clear, but fitting into Slot’s structured approach could be a challenge. He needs freedom to thrive, and competition for places is fierce. At 22, he must play regularly. If he leaves, it will be a painful decision for both club and player.
