Isak, Big Moves and Big Money: Liverpool’s Transfer Intent Becomes Clear

In a sun-drenched corner of his holiday retreat, Dave Davis broke his own rule to deliver a special edition of the Newsround Podcast on Anfield Index. Armed with updates from no fewer than seven journalists, Davis laid out what he called “big, big money” plans from Liverpool, with Alexander Isak at the centre of the conversation.

Isak Deal Sparks Big Interest

Liverpool’s interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is now impossible to ignore. Davis confirmed: “This has sprung into life… with all the reports that Liverpool have made contact to say they are prepared to, you know, to make a bid and go hard for Alexander Isak.” The figure being floated? Not just £120 million, but a staggering £130 million, and that’s only the starting point.

“My information… is that Liverpool have told Newcastle they will do add-ons above that,” Davis said. “You could be talking a deal that is 130 million plus add-ons.” The implication was clear, this is no speculative interest, but a concrete push for a marquee forward.

Despite the buzz, Davis struck a note of caution. “I’m still a little bit putting a big question mark by a guy with an injury record like Isak for this money,” he admitted. But with Liverpool reportedly ready to put down “a verbal offer… on the table,” the wheels are very much in motion.

Newcastle’s Calculations and Knock-On Effects

The Geordies might see opportunity here. “If you are Newcastle and you can sign Hugo Ekitike for somewhere around 86 million quid and you get a deal for Alexander Isak for 130 plus add-ons, can you imagine what that means?” Davis asked. It’s a simple numbers game for Eddie Howe’s side, who must also navigate their own attacking rebuild.

There’s a strategic rush from Liverpool too. The Reds are said to want their “business done before they fly out… on the 23rd” for the Far East Tour. With their opening fixture against AC Milan scheduled for the 26th, time is ticking.

Rodrygo Interest Emerges

Isak might not be the only forward on Liverpool’s radar. Davis added, “We’re told yesterday… for Rodrygo if he does leave Real Madrid,” super agent Pini Zahavi is “leaning towards Liverpool.” While Rodrygo would likely slot into the left of a front three, Davis acknowledged that “he could play as a false nine… Liverpool liking multifunctional… forwards.”

Most crucially, Davis revealed: “As it stands, it seems to be as well as Isak,” not instead of. That alone signals a major offensive overhaul in the works.

Outgoings Could Fund Big Moves

To bankroll such audacious deals, Liverpool may need to sanction some high-profile exits. “We know they rejected a bid about 58 million pounds from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz,” Davis reported, referencing claims from David Ornstein that Diaz “wants to leave.”

But Liverpool are playing hardball. “To even get Liverpool to the table… you’d have to put 65 million quid, not euros, down,” Davis said. That’s just to start negotiations.

Darwin Nunez is another name to watch. “Saudi clubs… had made contact,” Davis confirmed, though he was quick to add, “that is a little bit old… Napoli had already moved on.” Nunez is reportedly open to a Saudi move, and Liverpool could benefit from what Davis described as “a rook of cash.”

Elsewhere, West Ham are eyeing a double swoop for Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton. “West Ham adore Tyler Morton,” Davis said, with Elliott potentially available for “somewhere between 40 to 50 million.”

Final Word on Centre-Backs

While the spotlight is on forwards, Davis noted Liverpool’s need for a defender hasn’t gone away. “They are not going to go into the Premier League season with three centre halves,” he said. Though it’s “gone quiet on Marc Guehi,” reinforcements are expected.

With Hughes and Edwards working behind the scenes, Davis summed it up perfectly: “Boy, have they got a lot to do.”
