Liverpool Eye Argentine Talent as Slot Weighs Options on Summer Signing
Liverpool are exploring fresh possibilities to bolster the squad ahead of the January transfer window, with reports linking the Premier League champions to Boca Juniors right-back Dylan Tomas Gorosito. The 19-year-old Argentine has caught attention with his performances at the Under-20 World Cup in Chile, where scouts have been impressed by his energy, tackling, and defensive awareness.
Concerns Grow Over Frimpong’s Form
Arne Slot’s first summer as Liverpool manager saw significant investment, with over £440 million spent on improving a squad that had just lifted the Premier League title. Among those additions was Jeremie Frimpong, signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5 million to fill the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free transfer to Real Madrid.
However, questions over the Dutch international’s early form are beginning to mount. After just three league games and seven appearances in total, Frimpong’s start has raised doubts about his suitability for Slot’s tactical system. The Liverpool manager has already experimented by using him in a more advanced attacking role against Galatasaray in the Champions League, while academy product Conor Bradley has started the last two Premier League fixtures at right-back.
Those decisions have only fuelled speculation about Frimpong’s long-term place at Anfield, with suggestions that his Anfield career could be in jeopardy.

Gorosito Catching the Eye
Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, speaking to Rousing the Kop, confirmed that Liverpool scouts have been closely monitoring Boca’s young right-back.
“He’s a player who is standing out massively, he’s had a brilliant tournament,” Bailey said. “There’s a whole host of teams looking at him, Liverpool being one of them.
“He’s one who wasn’t especially on a lot of teams’ radars pre-tournament because he hadn’t played a lot of football for Boca Juniors, but he’s really stood out.
“Liverpool are one of the teams who quite like what they’ve seen, but we’re talking more of a future project. Teams watching and being impressed by someone doesn’t mean they’re going to sign him. It’s one to put on the system and keep tracking.”
Gorosito has featured in all six of Argentina’s games at the tournament so far, contributing one goal as part of a defence that has conceded just twice. His rise through Boca’s youth ranks and his performances for Argentina’s youth sides underline his potential to become a high-level right-back in future years.
Pundit Calls for Patience but Questions Remain
While Liverpool look to the future, former Reds midfielder Don Hutchison believes there are pressing concerns in the present. Speaking to GOAL, he was blunt in his assessment of Frimpong’s early struggles.
“I’d have Bradley starting in the team now, absolutely. I don’t think Frimpong’s current standard gets him anywhere near the first XI for Liverpool,” he said.
“I’ve watched every Liverpool match I could so far this season, and in some matches like the Southampton game, he just kept giving the ball away.
“Simple passes were going astray, and his confidence is just starting to erode. He played right wing against Galatasaray, and I think that was Arne Slot experimenting for who steps in for Salah when he’s off at the Africa Cup of Nations. But he struggled then, too.”
Hutchison added that Liverpool must return to basics and rely on dependable players during difficult spells. “When I watch Liverpool now, I see a team that is so out of sorts that they have to go back to basics. It needs to be Bradley at right-back.”
Long-Term Planning Under Slot
Liverpool’s interest in Gorosito reflects the club’s continued approach of identifying young, high-ceiling talents to future-proof key positions. With Alexander-Arnold gone and Frimpong under scrutiny, Slot and his recruitment team appear determined to ensure there are no weak links in their defensive setup.
Whether the club move for the Boca teenager in January or simply monitor his development, the direction is clear: Liverpool are keeping one eye firmly on the future while aiming to stay competitive across all fronts.
