Liverpool Transfer Talk: Assessing Antoine Semenyo Amid Squad Evolution
Liverpool are enjoying a period of fresh ambition and tactical maturity under Arne Slot, who guided the club to the Premier League title in his debut season. This summer has already delivered a record breaking transfer window with the arrivals of Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak. The result is a squad brimming with creativity, energy and versatility.
Yet the rumour mill continues to turn and AFC Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo is the latest name linked with Anfield. Credit goes to David Lynch who spoke to Dave Davis for Anfield Index for sparking the current discussion.
Semenyo Profile and Appeal
Semenyo has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season. Only Erling Haaland has more goal involvements, which explains why his reported £75 million valuation is generating headlines. At 24, he fits the model of a player who has growth potential, resale value and a high ceiling. He is direct, powerful, press resistant and capable of playing across the front line. It is no surprise that Lynch said, “I don’t doubt that Liverpool will keeping an eye on him because there’s a lot to like.”
His attributes line up with what Slot demands. Intelligent movement, comfort receiving under pressure and the ability to create overloads have been core to Liverpool’s attacking structure. Semenyo’s constant menace off both feet also aligns with Lynch’s point that, “He’s in that age group where they like to sign players, he’s got Premier League experience, two-footed and gets plenty of goals and assists.”
Ngumoha Development and January Strategy
With such an exciting profile, many fans would love to see this deal done early. However, Lynch injected realism into the debate. “I would cast doubts over a move for him in January, to be honest. If the plan was to leave a path open for Rio Ngumoha, then they’re not going to rip that up in January.”
Liverpool have shown a renewed commitment to integrating elite academy talent. Rio Ngumoha is regarded as one of the most gifted young attackers to emerge at Kirkby in years and the club want to ensure he has a clear runway. Lynch added, “Ngumoha is genuinely that good that he should be involved, so I wouldn’t want to block his progress by bringing someone in on the left-side.”

That focus on development may be a key factor in recruitment decisions across the next two windows. Lynch also noted that, “I really can’t see him signing in January and there are bigger needs elsewhere on the pitch.”
Summer Possibilities and Salah Factor
The summer could be a different conversation, depending on outgoings. Lynch believes a move later in 2025 would be more realistic, saying, “For me, you can make a case for a move in the future, especially if that clause becomes active in the summer.”
The possible departure of Mohamed Salah continues to hover over long term planning. Lynch added, “But I think that would come after a departure like if Salah goes, because I would still like to see that left-side left open and Ngumoha being used a bit more.”
Liverpool will not rush. Slot and the recruitment team have shown patience, precision and a refusal to compromise on long term squad balance. Semenyo may well be an attractive future option, but only if it complements the development of Ngumoha and the wider evolution of the squad.
