Exclusive: Injury expert reveals the truth behind Alexander Isak’s fitness scare

Not only has Liverpool’s luck on the pitch completely ran out, but it has seemingly spilled into the injury room now too.

Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong have both suffered hamstring injuries and will be sidelined for the next few weeks, whilst Giovanni Leoni is out for the season with an ACL injury.

Both Ryan Gravenberch and Alexander Isak are both struggling with minor issues too.

Off the back of five defeats in their last six games, it is a far from ideal situation for Arne Slot, who is already under immense pressure.

However, injury expert Ben Dinner, speaking exclusively to Anfield Index, courtesy of Escapist Magazine, and provided a positive update on Isak….

Isak’s Injury Setback

Liverpool’s record-breaking suffered a groin issue in the Reds’ 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League last week.

Isak has since missed Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat at Brentford on Saturday and is expected to be sidelined for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Crystal Palace at Anfield.

However, Dinnery believes the issue might not be as serious as first feared…

“There’s nothing to make us think that it’s anything sinister or significant, other than the fact that it takes him back away from the training pitch,” said Dinnery.

“It’ll just take them that little bit longer to build him back up to full match sharpness.”

The Swedish forward missed a huge amount of pre-season in order to push through the £125m move to Anfield and had slowly been building his fitness back up.

“It’s hugely disappointing for Isak because he is already playing catch-up and it was already going to be difficult for him to get to a level of full match fitness,” continued Dinnery.

“Even these minor setbacks can have a big impact on the player.”

When will Isak return?

Liverpool fans will be hoping to have their star striker back as soon as possible with an incredibly tough run of games coming up.

After Wednesday’s clash with Crystal Palace, they face Aston Villa and Real Madrid at Anfield before an away trip to Manchester City.

While it’s likely that Isak will be absent for these games, there’s hope that he won’t be sidelined for too long.

In the meantime, Liverpool can receive encouragement from Hugo Ekitike’s start to life on Merseyside.
