Liverpool Prospect Figueroa Called Up For USA U-20 Friendlies In Costa Rica
USA Recognition For Liverpool Talent
Liverpool forward Keyrol Figueroa has been named in the USA Under-20 squad for their upcoming training camp and friendlies against Costa Rica. The 19-year-old striker, who has impressed at academy level this season, joins a 20-player squad under interim head coach Rob Valentino, with matches taking place in Alajuela between November 10 and 18.

The USA will face Costa Rica’s U-20 side twice at the Estadio Piedades de Santa Ana, on November 15 and November 18, with both fixtures kicking off at 10 a.m. local time. It marks another important step for the young forward’s growing reputation, as he continues to represent the next generation of talent developing at Liverpool’s Kirkby Academy.
Strong Form At Liverpool
Figueroa’s call-up follows an excellent start to the campaign for Liverpool’s U21s in Premier League 2. The teenager has scored seven goals in nine appearances, including a standout hat-trick in the mini-Merseyside derby against Everton’s U21 side. His performances have caught the eye not just for his finishing but for his movement and composure in front of goal.

Born in Honduras but raised in England, Figueroa signed his first professional contract with Liverpool in May 2024, a moment that reflected years of steady progress through the youth ranks. Having joined the club at U14 level, his development has mirrored the club’s renewed focus on promoting homegrown and international talent from within the system.
Roots And Rising Reputation
The young striker comes from strong footballing heritage. His father, Maynor Figueroa, was a Honduran international and Premier League veteran, remembered for his professionalism and longevity at Wigan Athletic and Hull City. Keyrol’s path, however, is uniquely his own.

Representing the USA at youth level, he has already made an impression on the international stage, scoring seven goals at the 2023 CONCACAF U-17 Championship. His decision to represent the USA reflects both personal roots and the opportunity to compete within a growing football culture that continues to gain strength ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Future Prospects For Club And Country
Liverpool coaches see Figueroa as part of a promising generation emerging from Kirkby, alongside names such as Trey Nyoni and Lewis Koumas. His physical maturity, technical skill and poise in front of goal have made him one of the standout figures in the club’s youth set-up this season.
The coming weeks in Costa Rica will provide valuable experience against strong opposition in testing conditions. For Liverpool, it is another sign of the academy’s reach across continents, producing players who are not only technically capable but mentally ready for the demands of elite football.
Figueroa’s journey continues to build momentum, and his latest international recognition confirms what those at Liverpool have known for some time: this is a player with the ability and temperament to make the step up.
