Liverpool Considering the Futures of Two Players Ahead of January Transfer Window

Liverpool spent over £450m on new signings in a record-breaking summer transfer window. The spending spree saw world-class players like Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike arrive at Anfield to bolster the title-winning squad of last season.

As excited as everyone was by the new arrivals, it did raise questions over the futures of some of Liverpool’s young players. More specifically Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni.

However, Arne Slot insisted that the two teenagers were still in his first-team plans.

But instead, the duo caught in that akward stage in the middle of the youth setup and the first-team.

According to Gregg Evans and Andy Jones for The Athletic, Liverpool will listen to loan offers for both players in January.

Trey Nyoni

The positive for Nyoni has been that he is still clocking regular minutes for the Under-21’s. The 18-year-old has featured for the first-team on just two occasions this season.

Firstly in the 2-1 win vs Southampton in the Carabao Cup, before being a bit of a passenger in the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the next round.

He has made the bench four times for the first-team in the Premier League so far this season, but hasn’t been able to make an appearance yet.

It’s also worth mentioning that Nyoni has much more competition when it comes to breaking into the first-team.

The midfield trio of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were brilliant last season. Then after that, you have the likes of Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo.

£116m signing Florian Wirtz has also operated as one of the three midfielders.

As intelligent as Nyoni is and as good on the ball as he is, he’s still yet to make that step up physically. Perhaps a loan move to the EFL Championship or EFL League One would suit him well.

Rio Ngumoha

The situation of Rio Ngumoha is even more interesting. After an incredible pre-season, the 17-year-old looked set to play a big role in Liverpool’s season.

That was reinforced further when Ngumoha scored a 100th-minute winner in Liverpool’s dramatic 3-2 win over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in August.

Since then, he has only made three more Premier League appearances and has played just 29 minutes of football since.

Moreover, Liverpool are now heavily linked with a move to sign AFC Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo in a potential £65m January deal, which would restric the 17-year-old’s minutes even further.

Despite that, The Athletic believes a loan move for Ngumoha is unlikely at this stage.
