Mohamed Salah is joint-favourite to make the most assists in the Premier League this season.
The Liverpool winger has already won that award twice, including last season, and the bookmakers believe that Salah could join Kevin de Bruyne in being only the second player in Premier League history to win the accolade in three different seasons.
Here at Anfield Index, we wanted to take a look at the odds for the market and see why the bookies think Salah could win the award again.
Mohamed Salah 5/1 (William Hill)
In Liverpool’s title-winning season last year, Mohamed Salah racked up a remarkable 18 assists. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the bookmakers have the Egyptian winger down as one of the early-season favourites to win that award again. With a wealth of attacking players around him including Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo and many more… there are plenty of teammates waiting to finish a chance created by Salah. Plus, with a run of upcoming fixtures that look favourable for Liverpool, expect Salah’s assist total to start climbing very soon. As such, a price of 5/1 looks to be great value for one of the Premier League’s best ever players.
Jack Grealish 5/1 (William Hill)
Alongside Salah at 5/1 to win the award is Everton’s Jack Grealish. The winger, who is still on loan from Manchester City, has yet to win this award despite playing alongside Erling Haaland in recent years. As such, it’s somewhat of a surprise to see his name so high up on this list – especially as Everton’s strikers are currently struggling to find the back of the net.
Bruno Fernandes 8/1 (William Hill)
Another player who is yet to win the award is Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes. The bookies have the Portuguese midfielder priced at 8/1 and third favourite to record the most assists this season. After one of the worst seasons in recent memory for Man Utd, it’s somewhat of a surprise to see Fernandes priced so short for this award. However, their squad does still have talent and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Fernandes top this list come the end of the season.
Bukayo Saka 9/1 (William Hill)
A player from one of Liverpool’s title contenders is fourth on the list as Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is priced at 9/1. A team that has built its recent success on being defensively solid and having a set-piece threat like no other, it’s no surprise to see Saka, who sometimes takes Arsenal’s corners and free-kicks, be listed so highly with the bookmakers. In truth, it’s therefore remarkable to see the Englishman priced out at 9/1.
But, one thing is for sure and that’s that Saka, Fernandes or Grealish have yet to win this award… never mind twice! So, with a healthy run of fixtures coming up for Mohamed Salah – we think the price at 5/1 is good value whilst you can get it, as we expect Salah’s assist total to rise drastically in the coming weeks and months. His price might not be that good for long!
