Liverpool’s Dilemma Over Arne Slot Amid Mounting Pressure
Liverpool find themselves in a strikingly uncomfortable position as Arne Slot attempts to arrest a slide that has left supporters questioning the direction of the team. After delivering the Premier League title in 2024-25, the Dutchman has now overseen only three wins from Liverpool’s last 12 matches in all competitions, a run that has matched an unwanted record stretching back to the 1953-54 campaign. The discontent inside Anfield was audible after the recent defeat to PSV, with Slot loudly booed as he left the pitch.
Yet, despite the noise around the manager, those in charge appear far from ready to bow to public pressure. FSG, who have long been associated with calculated decision making rather than emotional reactions, seem determined to avoid the appearance of short term panic.
Conflicting Views On Slot’s Future
Speculation around Slot’s job security escalated further when discussion on the Ranks FC podcast suggested a rapid dismissal could be on the cards. One host stated: “If they lose four of their next five, then he won’t be in charge by Christmas.”
However, journalist Dean Jones pushed back strongly, saying: “I don’t know. I’m told he will. This is what’s weird. I am told that he will. Because they don’t want to be seen as, like, giving up on him and also, like, they’re grateful for what he did last season.”
It reflects a growing divide between fan sentiment and the stance taken by FSG. The ownership group appear conscious not only of Slot’s achievements but also the wider optics of making a drastic decision so soon after celebrating a league title.

Fixture Run That Could Shape The Season
Liverpool at least have an upcoming schedule that offers a chance to stabilise. A visit from 17th place West Ham United awaits, followed by matches with Sunderland and Leeds United on 6 December. These are the type of fixtures that, in years gone by, Liverpool would expect to dominate. Improving results in this stretch could ease the tension and restore confidence in Slot’s methods.
But the downside remains equally stark. The Reds sit 12th in the table, only three points off fourth place but trending in the wrong direction after losing six of their last seven league fixtures. Slot must find a way to reverse that momentum quickly.
Financial Implications If Form Does Not Improve
If Liverpool continue to slide, the consequences extend beyond league position. Missing out on Champions League qualification would not derail the club entirely thanks to diversified revenues, but the financial hit would be considerable. When Aston Villa failed to reach the competition last season, The Athletic reported losses of £30m with the potential to rise to £100m. Liverpool could be facing a similar scenario if their form does not recover under Slot.
For now, FSG appear committed to giving their manager time. The question is how long supporters are willing to wait and whether the forthcoming fixtures provide enough evidence that Slot can steady the ship once again.
