Journalist drops hint on Liverpool’s next midfield transfer target

With nine defeats in the last 12 games, all of the attention over the past few days has been on Arne Slot and his future at Liverpool.

However, as the poor form continues, the January transfer window is getting closer and closer.

There have been heavy reports that the Reds are planning potential moves to sign Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi.

And now, a recent report by Craig Hope for the Daily Mail, suggests that Liverpool could already be plotting a major move in the summer of 2026 too…

Liverpool interested in £80m-rated midfielder

According to the report in the Daily Mail, Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in a move to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson in the summer.

“The word inside Premier League rivals is that it would take a fee in excess of £80m to sign him,” said Hope.

Man City are claimed to be the favourites to sign him, however: “City are said to be aware that both Liverpool and Manchester United will be interested in Anderson and there is a feeling that a player who will likely be an England regular for several years is too good to pass by.”

Anderson’s impressive Nottingham Forest form

Since joining from Newcastle United for £35m, Anderson has been one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League. Not only does he hold a physical presence that very few players have, but he also has a brilliant skillset on the ball.

Liverpool’s midfield has really struggled at times this season and the worrying form of Alexis Mac Allister has only amplified those concerns.

So it would make perfect sense for Liverpool to be in the race to sign Anderson and for £80m, he could be worth every penny.
